Hello Orford, John Bouzoun here.
The selectmen have a couple of items we would like folks in town to know.
First in a row is skunks.
Our Animal Control Officer, Roy Daisey, has recently reported that 11 out of his last thirteen responses to calls have had to do with skunks. The other 2 were dog calls. We would like to ask all of you to please be aware that by State law ACOs are only required to handle calls about dogs and horses. That's correct - dogs and horses, not skunks in the front yard, not bats in the house, not bears at the bird feeders. But more importantly, having chosen to live in a rural community we all need to remember that this is where these animals live, and sharing our surroundings with them is simply part of country life. Also we should be aware that Orford has spent hundreds of dollars over the last few months responding to skunk calls. So we are asking your cooperation by not calling about skunks. We intend to give Roy guidelines directing him to minimize his responding to skunk calls.
Second in a row is the frequency of Board of Selectman Meetings.
Currently the Board meets weekly. We are considering changing that to every two weeks. This item will be on next week's meeting agenda for discussion and a decision. Please call, write, email, or whatever to let us know what you think about the possible change. Better yet, stop by next Wednesday evening and tell us in person.
Thank you
John
